Alfol C6 – C20+ Synthetic Fatty Alcohols
Univar Solutions has expanded its fatty alcohol product lineup with the complete line of Alfol synthetic fatty alcohols from Sasol. Produced domestically in Lake Charles, La., these high-purity, ethylene-based primary fatty alcohols are physically and chemically equivalent to natural oleochemicals made with coconut and palm kernel oil. With even number carbon chains that range from C6 to C20+, Alfol alcohols undergo all the chemical reactions typical of primary alcohols. These include esterifications, ethoxylation, sulfation, oxidation and many others. Their purity and linearity enable consistently high product yields.
These biodegradable synthetic fatty alcohols are excellent alternatives to natural fatty alcohols, for which consistent supply can be hampered by environmental and regulatory issues. With an ethylene-based feedstock and U.S. production, Alfol products offer stable supply and, in some cases, less cost.
The Alfol fatty alcohols are available in various purities, as well as blends and single cuts. The various grades cover these material types:
- Hexanol (C6)
- Octanol (C8)
- Decanol (C10)
- Dodecanol (C12)
- Myristyl Alcohol (C14)
- Cetyl Alcohol (16)
- Cetearyl Alcohol (C1618)
- Stearyl Alcohol (C18)
- Behenyl Alcohol (C20+)
Available in technical and NF certified grades, Alfol fatty alcohols can be bought in bag, drum, IBC tote, tank truck or railcar quantities.
